What is Engine Wear?
Engine wear is the process where the metallic parts of an engine have had microscopic damage to full blown gouges, divots and grooves occur. Most engine wear occurs over the life of the operation of the engine, however slight engine wear can occur at startup of the engine. Lubrication forms a barrier and preventative solution to engine wear by adding a chemically resistant substance to the heat and pressure experienced in engine operation.
How do I Select the right oil?
Selecting the right oil or lubrication is dependent on the age of the engine, manufacturers’ recommendation and operating specifications.
What do the numbers mean on each oil product?
The number on each oil or lubrication product represent the grade or specification formulation of the oil. This informs the user whether the oil selected will match the recommendation or operating tolerance of the manufacturers engine.
How often should oil be changed
Oil should be changed according the recommended oil change interval by the manufacturer. An oil change interval may be longer or shorter based on the level of workload placed on the engine. This interval in turn, can impact on how fast the chemical composition of protective formulation of the lubricant breaks down.
